A pre-purchase survey is an independent inspection carried out by a qualified marine surveyor. It covers the structural integrity of the hull, deck and superstructure, mechanical systems, electrical systems, safety equipment and general condition. We coordinate the survey and sea trial, and help you interpret the findings when negotiating the final price.

Key documents include the Certificado de Navegabilidad (seaworthiness certificate), proof of ownership, VAT status documentation, and registration with the Spanish Maritime Authority (Capitanía Marítima). If you are registering under a foreign flag or setting up a company purchase, additional steps apply. We manage all of this on your behalf.

VAT (IVA) is payable on new yacht purchases in Spain. For used vessels, VAT may already have been paid — we will verify the VAT status of any vessel before purchase. Boats flagged outside the EU may have different implications, and we work with specialist tax advisors to ensure full compliance.
